A good friend posted a video from Youtube on Facebook that I have included on this post. As I watched the video and heard the information about this Alzheimer's patient named Henry I couldn't help hearing the real gospel message that too often gets overlooked or is perhaps drowned out by so many competing messages.

In this reflection allow me to suggest an interesting comparison. If we compare the real gospel message to the music being heard in this video and we consider the idea that the Alzheimer's condition (spiritually speaking) could be mankind's inability to hear it then it may be worth giving some thought to how such competing voices become obstacles to the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I invite you now to play the video and upon its conclusion please continue with my reflection.

For me the most dramatic comment made on this video came at the end when it was said about Henry that he was "restored to himself, that he remembered who he is." This is exactly what occurs when people hear the good news of the real gospel of Christ. This is exactly what occurred to the prodigal son when he finally came to himself, sitting there in "Alzheimer's pig pen," remembering and hearing the music that he was already acquainted with and it energized him and he began to move to the rhythm of it.

In my estimation the real gospel of Jesus Christ can be summed up in I John 5:20 (quoting from the Mirror Bible) "This is what has become distinctly clear to us: the coming of the son of God is God's mission accomplished! He is the incarnate Christ. The moment all of Scripture pointed to has arrived! The son is present! In him God has given us the greatest gift, a mind whereby we may know him who is true; and in the same knowing, to find ourselves there in him who is true! Mankind is fully included and located in him, in his son Jesus Christ; this means that whatever Jesus is as son, we are. This is the true God; this is the life of the ages!
