Truth

There is something within each of us that bears witness to the truth. We did nothing for this truth to be within us. We do not have to do anything for this truth to surface. All that is needed is an awakening. We are not even responsible for this awakening. For the Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. This implies the notion that truth’s potential awakening occurs when our circumstances warrant a change of heart. It is like sitting in complete darkness hoping your eyes will soon adjust to it in hopes of being able to see when in reality all you can sense is fear. It is much like the seed that lies dormant in the soil. Once the rain comes (and the seed did nothing to cause the rain to fall) and awakens the seed, that which is bearing witness within us begins to sprout and grow. Moreover, once light occurs in our most severe darkness we awaken to that inner awareness of which we are so at home! When the awareness begins to awaken it is much like an ember one would find in a smoldering campfire. For that ember to reignite someone needs to blow upon it. When this happens, (and the ember did nothing to cause the wind to blow) not only does the ember reignite but that which is around it is affected by its reignition.

I have pondered this seeming phenomena for quite awhile now. Due to much thought and meditation, what I have noticed about others can best be summed up in the following. Some continue in a kind of blindfold mode totally oblivious to their ongoing distractions. Some are more into living life for the sake of having fun at the expense of others. Some are wrapped up in their religiosity where everyone else, in their eyes, are just hypocrites. Please understand that I am able to make these observations because I am guilty of each one of these and more. The awakening that I have experienced has taken me quite by surprise. I have often resisted this awakening because some of my distractions have been accompanied with a kind of pleasure that tends to draw and hold me captive.

In the new testament scriptures the description of “sin” is likened unto being held captive in a foreign land against one’s will. When the recognition of such a dilemma has come into full view the awareness can be overwhelming. What is one to do? The writer of Romans in the new testament wrestled with the same question. His conclusion resonated the truth that lay dormant within him. Before the writer could benefit from this truth he had to first discover its source.

I am choosing to capitalize the word “Source” because in my awakening the Source was not an event or a belief. The Source was a Person. The Person was Jesus the Christ made known to me in the Holy Spirit. For awhile I thought the Holy Spirit was accompanied by a feeling. Once I experienced this feeling for the first time, I wanted to experience it again and again. For me it was a kind of reassurance that the Holy Spirit was within me. What I discovered later was that I was seeking the feeling over against the Source. I only wanted the feeling instead of the Source of the feeling. The Holy Spirit is within me. She communicates with me often. However, She does not promote Herself but rather She promotes Jesus the Christ. Jesus is the Source and the Truth. We are made in the image and likeness of the Christ.

Because of the way humanity is designed we are bearers of the Truth. God placed this treasure in vessels of clay so it would be clearly understood that the treasure is there by God’s doing and not ours. I’m not sure just where this journey will lead me. Often my distractions get in the way. I struggle with the aftermath of yielding to temptations. I have become quite an expert in loathing self for some of my behaviors. The other morning while meditating on God I heard the following in my spirit. “There is no temptation you have yielded to or will ever yield to that is not covered by my blood.” As far as I am concerned, Jesus spoke this to me in the first person. To tell you the truth, I have been overwhelmed since I heard this spoken in my spirit. So I pass this along to you in hopes that you will gain some encouragement as have I.
