Shelter In a Storm

In blog number 63, I shared an experience I encountered while driving to work back in the spring of 2017. The voice I heard in my spirit instructed me to “look up” asking me what I saw. What I saw was a bunch of cloud formations. As I continued to look at the various shapes one particular cloud formation looked like a pair of wings. Nothing was attached to them like a bird or something like that. As soon as I identified what the shape appeared to me to look like, I said in an audible voice, “…it looks like wings.”

No sooner had I made that statement than I heard this same voice in my spirit say, “find the passage on wings.” Once I arrived at the hospital where I work I looked up “wings” on the Amplified Bible App that I have on my cell phone. There were lots of Bible passages containing the word “wings.” How was I to know which one I was being directed to read? Once I began reading the first verse of Psalm 57 it was as though the entire first verse pulsated. It reminded me of the “P” on the Pandora app when you first open it. I took that to mean this was the passage to which I was being directed. It read:

“Be merciful and gracious to me, O God, be merciful and gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge and finds shelter and confidence in You; yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge and be confident until calamities and destructive storms are passed.”

The reason I am reiterating my experience some three and a half years later has to do with the words “calamities and destructive storms” found in the first verse of this psalm. If you are keeping up with current events you know that the United States is nearing a presidential election like none other and that the entire planet is continuing to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. At this writing according to Johns Hopkins University the total cases worldwide stands at 29,468,504. Total deaths recorded are 933,228. If that wasn’t enough to qualify for calamities and destructive storms, our global population continues to feel the pressure placed upon it to social distance. Riots related to racial discontent including gun violence and murder seem to dominate news headlines.

I recall a time in life when grief due to severe loss dominated my life. It was paralyzing to say the least. At a given moment when I felt as though all was lost, I heard a voice in my spirit quote the first five words of Luke chapter two in the New King James Version of scripture. Simply put those five words assisted me in beginning the journey of coming out of my paralyzing grief. The first five words of Luke chapter two and verse one reads,
“And it came to pass.” That is exactly what will become of the calamities and destructive storms that are presently gathering.

So what are we to do? Be aware of the mercies of God. Locate yourself in the shadow of His wings. It is in this shadow where you will find shelter and confidence until the storms are passed. Remember, true love casts out fear. Let Love guide you and in doing so experience the embrace of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Anointed One who said, “I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you.” By the way, there are eleven verses in this psalm and the fact that I was asked to look up and what I saw were cloud formations you might be interested to know how verse ten reads:

For Your mercy and loving-kindness are great, reaching to the heavens, and Your truth and faithfulness to the clouds.
